Artist member since 2025
Pro
Burnaby, British Columbia

Ally Noormohamed explores the connection between place, memory, and mindfulness—through both urban and natural subjects. His work is rooted in the belief that calm moments carry quiet power, and that resilience often lives in stillness.

Working in watercolour and ink, Ally captures beauty in overlooked spaces and enduring details, whether it’s a weathered building, a blooming cactus, or a fox pausing in the woods. His background in design and observation helps him find meaning in subtle transitions—in nature, in cities, and in life.

Q+A

When did you start making art, and why?

I started making art as a child, but it wasn’t until I was diagnosed with a health condition as an adult that it became a core part of how I process and reflect on the world. Creating art became a way to slow down, find stillness, and notice the beauty in the ordinary — something I try to pass on through each piece.

Why is art important to you?

Art gives me a quiet space to reconnect—with nature, with memory, and with myself. It helps me make sense of change, loss, and resilience. When someone tells me one of my paintings gave them a moment of calm, I know I’ve shared something meaningful.

How long have you been creating art?

I’ve been creating art seriously for over 3 years, but drawing and observation have been part of my life since I was young. My journey deepened over the past several years as I turned to watercolour and ink to explore themes of mindfulness and quiet strength.
